Nightlife
Expo
Since its creation, in 1998, much of the night action has moved here. The bars zone is close to the Portugal Tower (the tallest building in Expo, 105m, with a portuguese fag on top), south direction. From tradicional bars to dancing ones, there is a great variety here. Some bars have external televisions where they display important football (soccer) maches. Several Restaurants also provide after hour meals.
Bairro Alto
Old buildings, fancy bars, diferent looking people (ok, sometimes really strange!), people grabbing a beer sitting on the floor, a smile on their face... Bairro Alto! This is the more searchen place in Lisbon to go out at night. Beyond the bars, several Fado houses are spread around.
Docks
This old wharehouses region is one the the neatest places around. The proximitty to the river and peace of the parked boats give these bars a nice romantic setting. If you look for a dancing place, we recommend the Havana Club (Shirt and shoes are advisable to get in).
Downtown
There are many caffes scattered all over downtown. These usually close at mid-night, and can work as a starter for a longer night, or just for the Cinderella night walkers. The reason why we include'em in this guide is because Downtown Lisbon is worth a walk at night. Many beautyfull buildings are lightened and deserve a night look: City Hall, Terreiro do Paço, Rossio, Rua Augusta...
Carcavelos Beach
10Km away from Lisbon, Carcavelos's beach is a nice place to have a drink always with sand & sea on sight. Sports Bar (easy to spot - it's the tallest building in the middle of the beach line) organizes dancing & thematic parties frequently. If there is not a special party, most of the bars are a relatively quiet place to go out, and not just at night.
Cascais
Late working restaurants and bars in many cosy esplanades - praça Luís de Camões, at the heart of Cascais, is the perfect example. On new year's eve, downtown Cascais, near the beach, is the place for one of the best fireworks in Lisbon's region.
Some night party people see downtown just as a starter, before hitting the dance floor somewhere else. 15 minutes walk away from downtown (west direction), the docks (Marina de Cascais) are a modern go out at night place. Many bars, disco bars and chic stores populate this summer nights crowded block.
Close to the Marina, the disco Coconuts is a must for dance music lovers. 2 dancing rooms, an outside esplanade, a karaoke room and a good music selection make this disco one of the best around.
